This entire website was conceptualized as a format for my final presentation in the Alverno College LTM 621 course. The course itself is part of my sequence in my quest to complete my teaching license and my masters degree. The course title is "Literacy in Early Adolescence/Adolescence." The final project for the course is to create a Multi-Genre Literacy Plan that outlines how I would address the learning needs of a group of 7 students. From the early stages of this project, a website seemed like the most logical design format for me. As I thought about all of the various elements of the plan, the organizational structure of the site seemed to make the most sense for the elements of my plan that I wanted to showcase. A website in and of itself IS multi-genre as it can contain personal writing (blogs), technical writing (descriptions of links to resources), academic writing (summaries of resources used), conversational writing (forum posts) and the list goes on.
I had never attempted designing a website before and certainly had never seen myself as a blogger. However, now both of those formats have come together to help me express my thoughts on both adolescent literacy and social studies content. As a visitor to my website, I hope that you are patient as I learn and might send me suggestions on how this site can continue to grow beyond the course itself and help other educators on their journey.
