Teaching is Not For Me . . .
It's For Them
"In the end, it doesn't matter how much money you made, how fancy your car was, or how big your house was.
It matters that you made a difference in the life of a child."
Many years ago, I heard that common quote, which I am roughly paraphrasing above. It has many different variations, but it came to mind when I was asked to do an impromptu reflection for a class in my education license program. The writing prompt was "Picture Yourself at Ninety." In my reflection, I started with that quote and then my 90-year old future self continued:
My proudest accomplishment is the impact I hope I had on generations behind me. Once I discovered my passion for education, I never once had regret for that as my life's work. What I did regret was not taking greater risks. Maybe I should have jumped from a plane, went on safari or dove from a cliff. But, those risks seemed too great and I could not bear the thought of losing any moment in the beauty of daily life. Maybe I missed the big moments, but I savored every little moment with my students every single day.
So, now I am on that life's journey in hopes that when I actually hit ninety, I have made a correct prediction! This website shares some of that journey with you and my students. It is my plan to help them be more literate and capable in social studies and to make a small difference in their lives in some way.
